Course Information
Description The lab provides a hands-on learning experience for exploration of human system components and basic physiology. Systems to be studied include integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, and special senses.
Prerequisites Corequisite(s): BIOL 2301.
Prerequisite(s): TSI complete in reading    Basic skills and competency in reading, writing, and math.
Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate an understanding of anatomical terminology, the role of the cell and cell membrane in maintaining homeostasis, the function of cellular organelles, and the organization and function of the skin. (PSLO 1, 2, 3, and alpha) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments.

2. Demonstrates an understanding of the functions and organization of the bones of the axial and appendicular skeleton and associated landmarks and terminology. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments

3. Demonstrate an understanding of the location of specific muscles of the muscular system as well as the organization and function of skeletal muscle. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments.

4. Demonstrate an understanding of the structures of the various components of the central and peripheral nervous systems, and sensory organs in the body. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments.

5. Demonstrate an understanding of reading material including relevant terminology. (PSLO alpha) measured by pre-post test questions.

6. Demonstrate an ability to work effectively with fellow students to complete/cover assigned material. (PSLO 4) Measured by group assignments in the lab portion of the course.

Textbooks -The REQUIRED workbook for the Bio 2101 lab (A&P1) is A Visual Analogy Guide to Human Anatomy, 4th ed., -by Paul A. Krieger. It is published by Morton Publishing. The ISBN for this book is 978-1-61731-624-1.
You will also need a copy of the lecture textbook and Mastering A&P Access code. The textbook is "Human Anatomy & Physiology", 2nd ed by Erin Amerman. The ISBN number for the lecture textbook only is 978-0134-754-239. The ISBN number for the Mastering A&P access code is 978-0-134-78807-4
The Access code can also be purchased directly from Pearson on the Mastering A&P site. Instructions for purchase are posted in the Course Information folder on the course website.
The lecture textbook and Mastering Access code are also available as a bundle in the LSCPA bookstore.

Online pre-lab assignments for each lab will be available on the course website the week before a lab and are due at the beginning of each lab. There are no excuses for not completing a pre-lab assignment. There are no make-ups on pre-lab assignments. You will need a Pearson Mastering A&P access code to access the online pre-lab assignments.

Determination of
Final Grade
Each lab exam will count 18% toward your final lab average.
The average of all of the online pre-lab assignments will count for 18% of your final lab average
Your attendance, participation, and daily work will count for 10% of your final lab average.

No grades are dropped when calculating averages.
No makeup exams are given and there are NO re-takes on any exam.
All lab exams must be taken as scheduled during your lab period.
Exams that are not taken as scheduled will receive a grade of zero.

Instructor Policies All lab assignments are completed using information in the textbook, ilab book, in the lab assignment, and using the Mastering A&P website. For the Anatomy & Physiology Revealed website for which you WILL NEED AN ACCESS CODE.
The pre-lab assignments are completed on the Mastering A&P site accessed by the link on the LAB course website.

Attendance Policy Attendance in all labs IS REQUIRED. It is NOT possible to attend a lab from a different instructor. It is also NOT possible to take a lab exam from a different lab instructor.
If you have questions, you can come by during my office hours, or you can email me at anytime. You will need to schedule time to complete exams during their period of availability. You will be able to take an exam after the scheduled availability period, but there will be a time penalty imposed.
Academic Honesty Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.
